Phillip and Sylvia Gellburg are a Jewish married couple living in Brooklyn, N.Y. In November 1938, after the horrific events of Kristallnacht are reported in the newspapers, Sylvia an otherwise healthy woman becomes unexplainably paralyzed from the waist down. When Dr. Harry Hyman is called in, problems in the marriage are revealed. How do both of the Gellburgs respond to being Jewish at this unsympathetic time in history?
